Apostles of Jesus

The apostles of Jesus are at the center of the New Testament narrative, being the first disciples chosen to follow Jesus Christ, to learn from him, and, after his resurrection, to continue his work as leaders of the nascent Church. Their role is fundamental in the spread of Christianity, and they are generally understood as the privileged witnesses of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

The twelve apostles, sometimes nicknamed the group of the Twelve, include figures such as Peter, John, James, and Andrew. Each coming from a different background, their diversity illustrates the universal nature of the message of Jesus. Their personal stories and their transformation into bold messengers of Christ offer readers inspiring testimonies of faith and devotion.

In studying the apostles, one explores not only their historical mission, but also their interpretation of the teachings of Jesus, which remains a subject of ongoing theological reflection. Their commitment to spreading the word of Christ despite persecution, hardship, and distant journeys makes them models of Christian devotion and underlines the importance of personal witness in the spread of the Christian faith.
