John specifies that the Messiah Jesus arrived after the start of the Feast of Tabernacles, or , which begins on 15 Tishri 3793, that is, Thursday, October 7 of the year 32. It is estimated that he arrived on Saturday, October 9 and had performed a healing, in keeping with John's account, which mentions the reproach of the concerning a healing performed on the day of the (John 7.22).
John shows that the Messiah Jesus' argument was grounded in the Scriptures, which astonished the crowd of Judeans (John 7.15). Indeed, the Messiah Jesus had not attended the great schools of Jerusalem, having received all his education in Nazareth.
When the Messiah Jesus affirms that his teaching comes directly from God, this does not necessarily mean that he never studied and that everything was revealed to him outside the usual human process. On the contrary, it seems reasonable to think that he had studied, that he possessed exceptional abilities and that he enjoyed an intimate relationship with the Father. Thus he was able to interpret the law correctly, because he understood the Father perfectly, as well as the spirit in which these directives had been given to Moses.
For the Judeans, not having studied in Jerusalem under the teaching of the great rabbis meant not having undertaken any recognized study. There was often a certain contempt toward those from other provinces, notably Galilee. Society, particularly in Jerusalem, was strongly influenced by the religious authorities, who exercised considerable control over the crowd.
Anyone who is sincerely devoted to God and serves him authentically will recognize that the Messiah Jesus is the Son of God (John 7.17). The exact subjects of the discussions are not detailed. However, one frequently observes a significant divergence between the teachings of the Master and those of the . This is what particularly interests the crowd, and when the Master manages to refute the arguments of the , it is even more enthusiastic.
We now come to the subject of the healing performed on a day of . The accusers, according to our conclusions, base themselves on a specific event that has just occurred.
According to John 7.21-24, the Messiah Jesus therefore seems to have performed a healing on the day of the , precisely on Saturday, October 9, which gave rise to a controversy. This kind of debate is not new, for the Gospels also refer to other healings performed on the day of the .
Mark 3.1-6: The Messiah Jesus heals a man with a withered hand in the , which provokes the anger of the .
Luke 13.10-17: He heals a woman who had been bent over for 18 years, provoking the indignation of the leader of the .
John 9.1-16: The Messiah Jesus heals a man born blind, which leads to a controversy over the observance of the .
Luke 14.1-6: He heals a man suffering from dropsy while he is a guest at the house of one of the leaders of the .
This problem persists, and the authorities concerned have not changed their position.
Despite the detailed argument that the Messiah Jesus offers, these men, experts in teaching the law, refuse to accept these explanations. On the contrary, the gap widens, and these will try to arrest him with a view to eliminating him.
