It is by Beelzebul

This type of accusation, claiming that Jesus casts out demons by Beelzebul (Satan), the prince of demons, appears in three Synoptic Gospels:

Luke 11.15 “But some of them said: It is by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that he casts out demons.”

Matthew 12.24 “When the heard this, they said: This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons.”

Mark 3.22 “The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem said: He is possessed by Beelzebul; it is by the prince of demons that he casts out demons.”

Meaning of the accusation

These accusations aim to undermine Jesus’ spiritual authority by attributing his miracles to a demonic power. Jesus answers by showing the absurdity of a kingdom divided against itself, and affirms that his works are done by the Spirit of God, a sign that the Kingdom has come.
