Abram lives in Mesopotamia, where many gods are worshiped. Men, not understanding the forces of nature, call them gods.
There is a god for the sun, one for the moon, one for the sea, and so on. In some desperate cases, they even sacrificed human beings, sometimes even their own children, hoping in this way to obtain a favorable response from them!
Abram is steeped in these customs, which have become normal in his eyes. The revelation of a new God is therefore not a surprise to him. However, he is going to be confronted with something quite unique: a single God.
This God is not a newcomer on the world stage, one more among many! He reveals Himself as the Only One, the Creator of the earth and of mankind. It is He, and He alone, who is the origin of everything Abram can see and touch.
Thus, Abram is confronted with a reality that calls into question all his spiritual knowledge and relegates it to the rank of legends.
Abram discovers God and brings his family and his descendants into this knowledge. He submits to this God and thus becomes an example for all future generations.
