The First Will Be Last

The phrase “the , and the last will be first” does not mean that some will be excluded from salvation, but that there will be a reversal of human values and perspectives in the kingdom of God. All the workers receive the same wage, a denarius, which symbolizes salvation, a gift of grace, not an earned wage.

The first represent those who think that their faithfulness, their seniority or their efforts give them more rights before God. The last, for their part, represent those who were called late or who know themselves to be unworthy, but who respond with faith and trust. Jesus shows that God does not distribute his grace according to merit, but according to his goodness.

Thus, “the ” means that in the kingdom of God, human criteria of greatness, justice or merit are reversed. Those who consider themselves “first” because of their piety, their seniority or their works will have to learn that everything is grace. And those who think themselves “last”, weak, latecomers, or repentant sinners, will receive the same fullness of divine grace.

In short, yes, all the workers are saved in this , but some still need to understand that salvation is not owed to their effort, but a gift offered freely and with love by God.
